Moscow has extradited to Baku an Azerbaijani citizen accused of participating in an illegal armed group in Iran, the press service of the Prosecutor General's office of the Russian Federation reports.
"The Prosecutor General's office of the Russian Federation extradited Mehdi Shukyurov for criminal prosecution at the request of the Azerbaijani side. He is accused of committing crimes, conducting trainings for the purpose of terrorism and participating in the activities of an armed group of the criminal code of Azerbaijan that is not provided for by law," the statement reads.
According to investigators, in March 2016, Shukyurov moved from Azerbaijan to Iran, where he joined an illegal armed group created for the purpose of committing serious and especially serious crimes, including those of a terrorist nature.
"After that, he participated in the activities of this illegal armed group. In order to commit crimes of a terrorist nature, he was trained in the use of firearms, explosives and devices, as well as other dangerous technical means," the report says.
In connection with the establishment of his location in Russia, the Prosecutor General's office of Azerbaijan sent a request for the extradition of the accused, which was granted in March. Accompanied by a special convoy, Shukyurov was taken home, the Ministry added.
