Moscow condemns sanctions imposed by Washington on Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters during a briefing.
"Of course, we condemn the US imposing sanctions on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said.
Imposing sanctions on the head of the Foreign Ministry is, according to Ryabkov, an unprecedented measure of pressure, and "there is no place in modern international relations" for such actions.
The US Treasury Department announced its decision to impose sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister on July 31. Zarif himself noted that it has no effect on him or his family, as he has no property or interest outside of Iran.
