Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says that Russia is one of the main friends of the Palestinian people. According to him, relations with the USSR and then with Russia were "invariably smooth". "The Russian-Palestinian relations begins in 1968, before the recognition," Abbas said in an interview with Russian media on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Palestine.
According to the Palestinian leader, from Vladimir Putin's coming to power to nowadays, relations between the two states continue to develop and strengthen in economic, political, cultural and educational fields.
"We consider Russia one of the main friends of the Palestinian people," Abbas said. "We do not need to seek its support on international venues, as Russia has always stood and stands by our people side".
