Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak confirmed talks on the possibility of creating a gas union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It implies cooperation in transportation, export, processing of gas and other forms of cooperation, Novak told reporters.
"Yes, such areas of cooperation are considered because both Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have had a single gas transportation system since the Soviet Union. In fact, we have great opportunities for expanding mutual cooperation, including gas supplies and processing. The supply of other export routes," he noted.
Novak explained that one of the directions may become China.
Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Vladimir Putin of Russia discussed the creation of a "triple gas union" with Uzbekistan during a meeting in the Kremlin on November 28. On November 28, Tokayev, during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, said that Putin proposed to create a trilateral union and is going to call the president of Uzbekistan about it.
