The Russian Federation has reiterated its commitment to the "one China" principle and firmly rejects the notion of Taiwan's independence. This stance was emphasized in a Russian-Chinese communiqué signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The communiqué was issued following a meeting between the heads of government of Russia and China on August 21, during the visit of Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Russia.
"The Russian side reaffirms its commitment to the 'one China' principle, recognizes that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an integral part of China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only government representing all of China. The Russian side strongly opposes Taiwan's independence in any form," the document states.
The communiqué further underscores that Russia fully supports China's efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its pursuit of national unification.
In return, China expressed support for Russia's efforts to ensure security and stability, national development and prosperity, and to maintain its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The document also notes China's opposition to external interference in Russia's internal affairs.
