Putin and Berdimuhamedov discussed cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and discussed the interaction of the two countries in the fight against the coronavirus, the Kremlin's press service reports.

 

The presidents discussed the situation around the coronavirus pandemic and agreed on further contacts between relevant ministries and departments of the two countries," the message reads.

 

They also reviewed a number of other bilateral issues with an emphasis on invigorating trade and economic cooperation.

 

As previously the Russian Foreign Ministry reported, Russia expressed its gratitude to Turkmenistan for humanitarian assistance in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

 

"Within the framework of cooperation between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan, based on the principles of strategic partnership, the leadership of Turkmenistan handed over to the Russian side a humanitarian cargo weighing about 1000 tons. Free aid is provided by high-quality Turkmen goods, including textiles, construction materials, and food. The Russian side is deeply grateful to Turkmenistan for this gesture of friendship and good - neighborliness, which is especially valuable in the current difficult situation caused by the global pandemic of a new coronavirus infection," the message reads.

 

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the products transferred by Turkmenistan will be sent to medical institutions, primarily those involved in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus, as well as organizations that provide social support to citizens at risk of COVID - 19 infection.

 

According to the latest WHO data, more than 3.8 million cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the world, more than 278 thousand people died.
