Russia will invite representatives of the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) to participate in the Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan, which will be held on October 20, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan and director of the Russian foreign ministry's Second Asia Department, told reporters on Thursday.
"Yes," he said in response to a question about the intention to invite the Taliban. At the same time, Kabulov did not specify the level of their representatives.
The Moscow format was established in 2017 on the basis of a six-party consultation mechanism of special representatives of Russia, Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Iran and India.
