Russia to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, says Foreign Ministry

17 December 2021

Russia will send a new batch of humanitarian aid of food and medicines to Afghanistan on Saturday, December 18, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the second Asia Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said RIA Novosti.

Russia sent the first batch of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in November, and the second batch was delivered in early December. Russian Ambassador to Kabul Dmitry Zhirnov said earlier that Russia would send about 100 tons of food, medicine and basic necessities to Afghanistan.

"The third delivery of humanitarian cargo to Afghanistan will be sent soon - on December 18. Just before the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, three planes will bring another batch of humanitarian aid to Kabul," Kabulov said.

"This is such a subtle hint: the West only talks about helping the Afghans. It feels like the West is waiting for Afghan children to die of hunger and cold in their hundreds and thousands, and then they will remember that their humanitarian declarations need to be backed up by deeds. And we are delivering aid now. Food, flour, medicine - the things ordinary Afghans need - will be delivered. This is a super task right now," the diplomat added.
