Joint exercises of military servicemen of Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will be held from August 5 to 10 at the Tajik training ground Kharb-Maydon 20 kilometers from the border with Afghanistan, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, commander of troops of the Central Military District (CMD), told reporters.
"At the beginning of August, we will take part in a joint exercise with the participation of military contingents of the armed forces of the republics of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Kharb-Maydon firing range. In the course of the exercise we will work out preparation for combat operations by a joint group of troops to defeat units of illegal armed groups that have invaded the territory of the allied state," Lapin said.
The number of servicemen who will be involved in the exercise has not been disclosed yet.
The press service of the Central Military District clarifies that units of the 201st Military Base including mountain motorized infantry, tank and artillery units, as well as groups of special separate compounds of a special purpose of the Central Military District, will constitute the basis of the Russian military contingent. In addition, the exercise will involve NBC specialists and mobile electronic warfare groups.
The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is the largest military facility of Russia outside Russia. It is located in two cities, Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, air defense and communications units.
