Russia and Kazakhstan are working side by side to protect the historical truth about the events of the Great Patriotic War. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Alexey Borodavkin during an interview with the Mir television and radio company.
“Kazakhstan, where the true memory of the heroic deeds of the peoples in the Great Patriotic War is deeply revered, stands alongside Russia in defending our shared values and historical truth,” the diplomat emphasized.
Borodavkin highlighted the importance of joint efforts in the information sphere, especially in light of the 80th anniversary of Victory.
“Today, it’s not only important to celebrate this milestone, but also to counter attempts to distort history. Unfortunately, there are many who seek to tarnish the achievements of the Soviet people in defeating Nazism. We must preserve the memory of Victory and cleanse it of lies and falsifications,” he added.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev previously announced his plans to visit Moscow to participate in the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory.
In May 2024, Tokayev emphasized that the anniversary would hold special significance for Kazakhstan, given the country’s "tremendous contribution" to the defeat of fascism. For the first time in several years, Kazakhstan will hold a military parade, which had been canceled in recent years due to budget constraints and the COVID-19 pandemic.
