Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Head of the Arab League office in Moscow Jaber Hamidawi exchanged opinions on the Middle East situation, taking into account the situation in Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, at a meeting on Friday.
"There was a detailed exchange of views on the Middle East focusing on the situation in Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories," the Russian MFA said in a published statement.
They stressed that during the meeting "the parties expressed satisfaction with Syria resuming its participation in the work of the League."
The diplomatic office noted that the sides also discussed issues of deepening the dialogue between Russia and the League. "In this context, the relevance of holding the next ministerial session of the Russian-Arab cooperation forum in the near future was confirmed," the ministry added.
The meeting was held at the request of Jaber Hamidawi.
The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League decided on May 7, 2023, to restore Syria's membership in the regional organization.
