Russian Embassy: No Threat to Russians in the Maldives

28 August

The Russian embassy has assured that there is no danger to Russian citizens currently in the Maldives.

In a statement provided to TASS by the Russian embassy in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, it was confirmed that Russian nationals in the Maldives are safe, with no reports of any incidents. This assurance follows media reports suggesting a potential coup attempt in the Maldives.

Earlier, the ANI agency reported that Maldivian police had initiated an investigation into a suspected coup attempt after the Bank of the Maldives suspended foreign transactions.

“At this time, the embassy has not observed any signs of a coup d'état in the Maldives in its traditional sense. Russian citizens residing in the archipelago are safe,” the embassy stated. They also mentioned that no Russian citizens have requested assistance.
