Russian rescuers completed search and rescue work in earthquake-stricken Turkey and Syria, it was decided to withdraw the group of the ministry from the disaster zone, Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Aleksandr Kurenkov said this on Tuesday.
"The search and rescue operation is being completed. Heavy equipment is involved in debris removal. In this regard, the Russian president has decided to withdraw the Russian EMERCOM group," he said during a teleconference with EMERCOM task forces in Turkey and Syria.
Kurenkov noted that Russia has become one of the first countries that came to help the affected population of Turkey and Syria. The EMERCOM head recalled that on the instructions of the Russian president a combined group of the Russian EMERCOM had been sent to the emergency zone as soon as possible. Rescuers arrived in Turkey and Syria on February 6. They began to remove the rubble and search for victims in the most difficult areas. "I constantly reported to the president about this work," the minister added.
As reported to the head of the ministry of emergency situations, in Turkey, employees of the Russian ministry rescued six people from under the rubble, provided assistance to more than 830 victims. In Syria, rescuers found three survivors from under the rubble. "I want to thank each of you for your dedication, readiness to come to the aid and perform the task at hand," the minister concluded.
