Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov is starting an official visit to Iraq.
It is planned that the head of Russian diplomacy will hold meetings with Iraqi President Barham Saleh and Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, as well as with the speaker of Parliament.
In addition, Lavrov will visit Iraqi Kurdistan, which has broad autonomy.
Earlier it was reported that the Foreign Minister will be accompanied by representatives of Russian oil and gas companies, which will consider the possibility of new investments in the Arab Republic.
It is worth noting that Lavrov's visit to Iraq will be held against the backdrop of anti-government demonstrations in Baghdad and other cities of the country, which have begun on October 1. As a result of clashes with the police during the week more than a hundred people were killed, about 4 thousand were injured.
