The delay of withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan may have an adverse effect on the Afghan settlement but it will not lead to the end of this process, Russian presidential Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov told TASS on Friday, commenting on statements that it would be difficult for the United States to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by May 1.
"There is nothing good [in this]. Everything will depend on how the Taliban (banned in Russia) react to this. Probably negatively, but that doesn't mean that [this is] the end of the story. The Americans will have to seek solutions and compromises with the Taliban to make them understand this decision," Kabulov said, answering a related question.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that the US administration would have difficulty withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan by May 1, but at the moment there are no plans to leave them in the country until next year.
