Russian Foreign Ministry: election results in Kazakhstan have shown that the population supports the course of the government

Results of the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan, which were won by the ruling party "Nur Otan" and which, according to the international observers, were held in accordance with democratic standards, showed that the population supports the course of the country's leadership, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.


The international observers, including missions of the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, noted full compliance of the voting with democratic standards and norms, the free character of the expression of the will, and the openness of the process for monitoring," stated the RF Foreign Ministry. - "This indicates that the people of Kazakhstan broadly support the country's leadership's course towards development and well-being of its citizens, supported by the leading political forces of the country".


Elections to the lower house of parliament were held in Kazakhstan on January 10. According to their results, Nur Otan received 71.09% of the vote, which gives it 76 out of 98 seats in the new composition of the Majilis. The People's Party of Kazakhstan gained 9.1% and will receive 10 seats, while Ak Zhol with 10.95% will have 12 seats. Two other parties taking part in the elections failed to pass the 7% threshold.


The lower chamber of parliament has a total of 107 deputies, 98 of whom are elected by party lists by direct secret ballot. The remaining nine parliamentarians, in accordance with the law, were elected on January 11 by the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, which implements national policy in the sphere of interethnic relations.
