Unilateral sanctions on Syria harm ordinary Syrians, but do not prevent the US from smugglingб Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said on Tuesday, speaking at a UN Security Council debate on the protection of civilians during military conflicts.
"Sanctions against Syria are intensifying, even despite the UN Secretary-General's call for easing restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic," the Deputy Minister said. - "As a result, according to the UN, today 90% of the Syrian population live below the poverty line, 70% do not have access to food".
"At the same time, the restrictions do not prevent the Americans, who occupy oil fields and agricultural land in Trans-Eu, from increasing smuggling and illegal trade in oil and grain," he stressed.
