Moscow will be among the first world capitals, which the new Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Jan Kubiš, plans to visit, Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, told reporters on Monday.
"We talked on Friday, yes," he said, responding to a TASS question about whether Kubiš was planning a visit to Moscow. - He, of course, needs to get up to speed, have contacts with the Libyans. Then, one of the first capitals he is going to visit as a Special Envoy for Libya is, of course, Moscow".
Bogdanov noted that there are no specific dates for the visit yet. "But we have confirmed to him that we will be glad to receive him and hold in-depth consultations at any convenient time," the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed.
"I think he is interested, too, given our understanding of what is going on there and our contacts with all the Libyan parties. So there are common interests here," the high-ranking diplomat concluded.
On January 18, UN Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Slovak diplomat Jan Kubiš as Special Envoy to Libya after the Security Council approved his nomination.
