Russian MFA Advises Against Travel to Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan for Russians

20 October 2023

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a strong recommendation for Russians to refrain from traveling to Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan. This advisory comes in response to the evolving situation in the region.

"The situation in the Middle East is intensifying. Israel's territory is under shelling, and there are missile and bombing attacks on the northern and other regions of the Gaza Strip. Armed clashes persist in the vicinity of the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel," - noted the Russian foreign ministry. - "The toll of casualties and injuries is increasing, and mass protest demonstrations are occurring worldwide."

"In light of this situation, we strongly advise Russian Federation citizens to avoid traveling to the region, particularly to Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. For those already in these countries, it is crucial to exercise the utmost caution and elevate personal security measures, steer clear of conflict zones and areas of potential danger, and adhere to the guidance provided by local authorities and the advisories from Russian diplomatic missions,"  the statement emphasizes.

Moscow is actively collaborating with Egyptian and Israeli authorities to facilitate the safe evacuation of Russian citizens seeking assistance from the Gaza Strip. The foreign ministry underscores its continuous monitoring of air travel conditions in the region, with options for departures available through regular airline flights from countries including Israel, Lebanon, and Jordan. As a result, around 6,000 individuals have returned to Russia from Tel Aviv since October 9.

Furthermore, in line with the directive of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a special flight from the Ministry of Emergency Situations transported humanitarian aid, including flour, sugar, rice, and other essential goods weighing a total of 27 tons, to El-Arish airport on October 19. This humanitarian cargo was handed over to representatives of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society for the benefit of the population in the Gaza Strip. The Russian diplomatic ministry emphasizes that this act underscores Russia's readiness to provide timely humanitarian assistance.
