Moscow is urging all stakeholders involved in the peaceful resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict to come together and collaborate. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made this call in a statement marking the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Measures between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
"We are advocating for the mobilization of collective actions designed to establish the necessary conditions for restarting the peace process. We recognize the pivotal roles played by regional actors such as Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Algeria, Turkey, and the Arab League. It is time to unite our efforts. The Russian initiative, discussed during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's meeting on July 18 in Moscow with the heads of diplomatic missions from Arab countries, Turkey, and the Arab League, aims to formulate cohesive approaches to the Middle East peace process," stated Zakharova.
As the diplomat emphasized, Russia is committed to actively engaging in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and other regional conflict resolutions. This involvement includes maintaining close communication with Middle Eastern partners, particularly Palestine and Israel, and leveraging the established and vital asset of trust within Russian foreign policy in the Middle East.
Furthermore, she stressed the importance of learning from the Oslo Accords (Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements). "Such an analysis is essential for constructing a robust framework for the final status of the region and resuming comprehensive peace negotiations," added the spokesperson from the Russian MFA.
"The US 'monopolization' of brokerage functions should yield to collective impartial mediation. Furthermore, all parties involved should refrain from unilateral actions, foremost among them being the construction of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, acts of terrorism, and the incitement of violence," emphasized the diplomat.
The spokesperson of the Russian MFA underscored that "resolving the differences between Israelis and Palestinians can only occur through comprehensive direct dialogue." She also cautioned against a selective approach to problem-solving, particularly one that exclusively addresses economic or security matters without addressing the broader political aspects of the conflict, as this approach only exacerbates the situation.
