The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia published a comment on the resolution "Combating glorification of Nazism" adopted at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
The resolution introduced by the Russian delegation is called “Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance”.
The Committee then approved the draft resolution by a recorded vote of 133 in favor to 2 against (Ukraine, United States), with 55 abstentions.
"Without a doubt, we are talking about a topic that should serve to unite the UN member states, especially taking into account the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War next year. The formation of the UN was the response of the member states of the anti-Hitler coalition to the horrors and crimes of Nazism. We are convinced that this historic Victory is the common heritage of all UN member states. The broad support of the Russian initiative and the growing number of its co-authors confirm the importance of the combating the glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism in nowadays conditions, the preservation of the historical memory of peoples about the lessons of the Second World War, which brought untold suffering to mankind, about those who gave their lives in the name of Victory", reads, in particular, the commentary of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
