The actions of Washington and Tehran on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program should be carefully synchronized and comply with the terms of the deal, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary released on Tuesday.
The next round of multilateral consultations under the auspices of the Joint JCPOA commission is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, the diplomat said. "We hope that thanks to the consolidated efforts of all countries participating in the nuclear deal, including Iran, as well as US representatives, it will be possible to move towards agreeing on counter steps to be taken by Washington to comply with the strict requirements of the JCPOA, which in turn will create the necessary conditions for Tehran to unfreeze the voluntary commitments suspended in response to the gross violations of the 2015 comprehensive agreements and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by the United States," she stressed. - "We believe that US and Iranian actions should be carefully synchronized and fully comply with the terms of the JCPOA.
According to Zakharova, this is the only way to bring the implementation of the nuclear deal back to the originally agreed framework and to give this process a confident perspective. "We call on all the partners of the JCPOA, as well as the United States, to make maximum efforts in order to cope with the task as soon as possible," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added.
The diplomat also said that Moscow welcomed the extension of the temporary "technical understandings" between Iran and the IAEA. "We assume that they [the understandings] create the necessary political space for continuing intensive negotiations aimed at ensuring sustainable and full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the Iranian nuclear program," Zakharova said. - "Close cooperation between Iran and the IAEA on verification is a major stabilizing factor and a guarantee of predictability and transparency of the Iranian nuclear program and guarantees that it has no associated proliferation risks".
Participants in the talks, which have been underway since early April in a face-to-face format in Vienna, have noted steady progress in the work. Experts in three working groups are working on the text of a future agreement to resume implementation of the JCPOA: lifting Washington's sanctions on Tehran (and a future US return to the deal) and fulfilling Iran's nuclear obligations.
