Russian MFA: US Blocks UN Security Council Efforts to Halt Gaza Bloodshed

21 November

Washington has rejected the possibility of stopping the horrific bloodshed in Gaza during a UN Security Council vote, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The MFA reported that on November 20, the Security Council voted on a draft resolution with a key demand for halting hostilities in Gaza. “The document, prepared by the 'Group of Ten' non-permanent members, received support from 14 delegations, but the decision was not adopted,” the MFA stated.

“Washington has once again rejected the opportunity to stop the horrific bloodshed in Gaza, which has already claimed the lives of 44,000 Palestinians and injured 104,000 more, the majority of whom are women and children. Another chance to release hostages, including Russian citizens, has been missed,” the ministry noted.

The MFA stressed that the US, for the sixth time, used its veto power to oppose calls for an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire.” “This vote speaks for itself. There are no illusions or doubts left that U.S. actions are the main and, in fact, the sole reason for the escalation of violence, the suffering of millions of civilians in the Middle East, and other regions of the world,” the ministry added.

The MFA also underlined that Russia “will continue its active efforts within the UN Security Council and other international platforms to advocate for an immediate ceasefire, prevent further escalation of confrontation, and achieve lasting peace and security in the zone of the Arab-Israeli conflict based on universally recognized international legal foundations.”
