Russian Ministry of Defense takes active part in stabilization of situation in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Russian military department is actively involved in stabilizing the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Tuesday.


"The Russian Defense Ministry takes an active part in implementing initiatives of the Russian Federation to stabilize the situation in Nagorno Karabakh as soon as possible within its competence," the ministry said.


In particular, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu held talks with his colleagues from different countries on this issue. "The main purpose of this work <...> is the immediate cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and the transition to negotiations between the conflicting sides to normalize the situation in the region," the Defense Ministry stressed.


Participation of terrorist groups


The Russian Defense Ministry is concerned about information about the transfer of terrorist groups' militants from the Middle East to the conflict area in Nagorno Karabakh.


"The Russian Defense Ministry is particularly concerned about the information about the transfer of terrorist groups from the Middle East to the conflict area in Nagorno Karabakh," the Defense Ministry said.


The ministry added that the concern was communicated by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Soygu to Turkish Military Minister Hulusi Akar during phone talks on Monday.


On October 12 Sergey Shoygu held telephone talks with Minister of Defense of Turkey Hulusi Akar. On October 7 the head of the Russian Defense ministry held telephone talks with his colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan David Tonoyan and Zakir Hasanov. The sides discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
