Russian Muslims open a mosque in Africa

03 March 2020

The Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Zakat charitable foundation opened a mosque and school in the Republic of Chad. Mufti of Moscow Ildar Alyautdinov said this in an interview for RIA Novosti.

He noted that Chad is now one of the poorest countries not only in Africa but also in the world.

More than 60% of the country's population are Muslims who live below the poverty line.

The  Russian delegation, according to Alyautdinov, visited several villages of the African state and provided food packages.

"We have opened a mosque and a classroom in the village of Quweiz, where almost 60 students are currently studying. More than 40 of them have already fully read the Holy Qur'an, and 16 students are Hafiz, which means they know the Holy Scripture by heart", the Agency quoted the religious figure as saying.

In addition, thanks to donations from Russian citizens, seven new wells have appeared in Chad.
