Soldiers of the Russian peacekeeping contingent provide security for vehicular traffic and the movement of citizens along the Lachin corridor in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.
"The peacekeepers ensure the safety of the movement of civilian vehicles and the movement of residents through the Lachin corridor, transportation of food and various goods, accompany and ensure the safety of repair crews that perform tasks to restore infrastructure," the report reads.
The agency noted that more than 26 thousand refugees have returned to their former places of residence since November 14.
Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh have defused about 1,000 explosive devices.
Soldiers of the Russian peacekeeping contingent cleared about 10 kilometers of roads and defused about a thousand explosive objects in the Lachin corridor in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The Russian peacekeepers cleared an area in the Lachin corridor of explosives and provided security for the repair brigades to restore the high-voltage power line destroyed during the hostilities. <...> Totally, during the peacekeeping operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the engineering units cleaned more than 29 hectares of terrain and about 10 kilometers of roads, checked more than 100 houses and socially important objects, found and neutralized about 1,000 explosive objects," the Defense Ministry said.
It is specified that the found explosive objects, as well as abandoned or non-working ammunition, are taken to a specially equipped training ground, where they are destroyed. On the spot, deminers are undermining those munitions that can not be safely evacuated.
The agency noted that the Russian peacekeepers also ensure the safety of work to restore power lines, gas pipelines, communication lines and transformer substations. Over the past day, three transmission line supports, 1.2 thousand meters of the gas pipeline, over 1.5 thousand meters of communication lines and two transformer substations have been restored.
Russian peacekeepers are in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in accordance with the agreements recorded on November 9 in the joint statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on a complete ceasefire in the region. The core of the peacekeeping contingent consists of units of the 15th Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Central Military District. Russian observation posts are deployed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor linking Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The command of the peacekeeping operation is located in Stepanakert.
