The Russian peacekeeping forces that had arrived in the Republic of Armenia moved to the area to monitor the ceasefire and military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.
"The military convoys will have to travel more than 250 km and deploy a peacekeeping contingent with the display of Russian observation posts along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor," the report said.
It was reported earlier that more than 400 Russian peacekeepers from 15 separate peacekeeping brigades have already arrived in the conflict zone with 20 IL-76 aircraft.
The Ministry reminded that a total of 1,960 servicemen, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 vehicles and special equipment to be deployed in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.
According to the Defense Ministry, the contingent will be based on units of the 15th Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade (peacekeeping) of the Central Military District. According to the agency, to monitor compliance with the cessation of hostilities agreements, Russian observation posts will be set up along the line of contact in Nagorno Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor connecting Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. The command of the peacekeeping operation will be located in the Stepanakert area.
