Russian Tourists Boost Tajikistan's Visitor Numbers by 92.8% in 2023

In  2023, Tajikistan saw a remarkable surge in Russian tourists, with the total number of visitors from Russia increasing by 92.8% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of  262.4 thousand people, the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of Tajikistan told reporters.

 

The report highlighted that tourists from  121 countries were recorded, with Russia leading with 262.4 thousand visitors. Additionally, the committee noted that the highest influx of tourists to Tajikistan in  2023 came from Uzbekistan, with  805.9 thousand visitors, marking a  15% increase from  2022. The tourist flow from Kazakhstan increased by  31.8%, reaching  31.5 thousand visitors; from Turkey - a  61.2% increase, with 10.8 thousand visitors. However, the most substantial growth in tourist arrivals was from China, with  13 thousand visitors, a fourfold increase from  2022.

 

By the end of January, the press service of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced that the tourist traffic to Tajikistan had grown by  20%, with over  1.2 million visits for recreational purposes. To enhance the appeal of the country as a destination, President Rahmon directed the formation of working groups across all government levels. These groups will be responsible for developing infrastructure for tourism, promoting local crafts, managing personnel issues within the industry, and implementing measures for environmental sustainability, such as greening settlements, maintaining cleanliness, and protecting natural resources.
