Russians Urged to Leave Lebanon as Soon as Possible, Peskov States

25 September

The Russian government is advising its citizens in Lebanon to leave the country as soon as possible, using available commercial flights, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. This recommendation is being made to ensure the safety of Russian nationals amid the ongoing conflict.

Peskov stated that information about the situation in Lebanon is coming from the Russian embassy and consular offices, where citizens are registered. He emphasized that all efforts are being made to ensure that Russian nationals are aware of the situation and are urged to leave immediately for their safety.

For several days, Israeli airstrikes have been targeting settlements in southern and eastern Lebanon. Hezbollah fighters have retaliated by launching rockets toward northern Israel. The Lebanese government has called on the UN to intervene and halt the Israeli aggression.

The recent escalation, with increased intensity of bombardments on both sides, followed a series of explosions in Lebanon on September 17-18, which left dozens dead and around 3,000 injured. Israeli airstrikes also targeted a residential building in a southern suburb of Beirut, killing over 50 people, including Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Akil. In retaliation, Hezbollah forces attacked an Israeli airbase and military-industrial complex in northern Haifa, with some rockets landing in residential areas.

The situation along the Israeli-Lebanese border worsened after Israel launched military operations in Gaza in October 2023. Both Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters have been exchanging fire daily along the border. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 100,000 people have been displaced in southern Lebanon due to Israeli shelling, while around 80,000 residents in northern Israel have faced similar conditions.
