Saudi Crown Prince meets with Erdogan in Bali

15 November 2022

Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud met Tuesday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Bali.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that the two sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation in various fields. The Saudi crown prince and the Turkish leader also discussed recent developments at the regional and international level.

Relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply after the murder of reporter Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul in 2018. Riyadh accused Ankara of trying to politicize and internationalize the criminal case. Erdogan visited the kingdom in late April for his first official visit since 2017, and Mohammed bin Salman visited Turkey in late June. Following talks in Ankara, the two sides agreed to begin a "new era" in bilateral relations.
