Saudi Foreign Minister Attends BRICS Summit in South Africa

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has traveled to South Africa to take part in the BRICS-Africa Dialogue and the Friends of BRICS Plus Dialogue. The country's foreign ministry confirmed this move, stating that Al Saud will lead Saudi Arabia's delegation during the summit.

 

"On behalf of His Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister HRH Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud left today for South Africa at the head of the kingdom's delegation that will take part in the BRICS Friends Plus Dialogue and the BRICS-Africa Dialogue," the foreign ministry's statement read.

 

The statement also mentioned that the Saudi foreign minister plans to engage in bilateral meetings during his visit.

 

The BRICS association consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa. The summit, taking place from August 22 to 24 in Johannesburg, will involve discussions among these countries and other partners. South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor earlier indicated that expansion of the organization will be on the agenda, with formal applications from 22 countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, seeking to join.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to participate in the summit via video link, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will represent the country in person.
