Enhanced partnership between the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will play a positive role in regional development, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming said on Thursday in Bishkek during the first Eurasian Economic Forum.
"The SCO's cooperation with the EEU will bring practical benefits to regional development," he said.
The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has certain advantages for promoting regional economic development, he said, and its goals and plans are "compatible with SCO activities."
"In the long term, there is great potential for working together to solve emerging problems," the secretary-general is convinced.
According to him, the situation in the world is currently "undergoing serious changes" and in such an environment "it is important to use the strengths" of both the SCO and the EEU, as this will give "a boost to the development of the regional economy." "Both organizations will develop and benefit the countries of the region. This is the main goal of today's event," Zhang Ming stressed.
About 2.5 thousand representatives of government agencies and businesses from 25 countries are taking part in the first Eurasian Economic Forum in Bishkek. Six discussion platforms are working within the event. It is expected that ten agreements and memorandums on cooperation of non-commercial nature will be signed after the meeting.
