Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Prime Minister of the Kurdish Autonomous Region of the Republic of Iraq Masoud Barzani on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
The parties discussed a range of issues related to the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Iraq, including enhancing cooperation with Kurdish partners in the fuel and energy, investment and humanitarian spheres.
As part of the "checking notes" on topical regional issues, with an emphasis on the current situation in and around Iraq, the officials noted the importance of consolidating the efforts of the international community in order to prevent further escalation of military and political tensions in the Middle East and North Africa.
