Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine Ziyad al-Nakhalah in Moscow.
The conversation focused on the state of affairs in the Middle East settlement, with an emphasis on the current situation in the West Bank and the Gaza strip.
The parties discussed the task of restoring Palestinian national unity as soon as possible on the political platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization as a prerequisite for establishing sustained direct negotiations with Israel.
Lavrov confirmed Russia's commitment to the two-state principle of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on a generally recognized international legal basis.
