Today the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will participate in the work of the ministerial session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum. The event is also expected to be attended by the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Representatives of the «three» of the Arab League Council of Ministers - Iraq, Sudan and Somalia, as well as the Chairman of the League of Tunisia.
Furthermore, Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Andreev reported that, Diplomats from almost all Arab countries, including about a dozen Foreign Ministers, will take part in the forum.
During this forum the bilateral meetings of Sergey Lavrov with delegations from Middle Eastern countries are scheduled. A number of meetings, in particular, with the Foreign Ministers of Palestine, Somalia, Yemen and Algeria, have already taken place.
According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, during the forum, «an extensive exchange of views on the state of affairs for the Middle East and North Africa is expected, focusing on the hot spots in the region, then responding to the challenges and threats faced by the Arab countries».
