Seven hostages who were held captive for approximately ten hours by an armed individual at a Procter & Gamble plant in the Istanbul suburb of Kocaeli have been successfully rescued. The perpetrator has been detained, as confirmed by Habertürk TV.
Initially, NTV erroneously reported that the suspect had been neutralized, but this information was subsequently corrected. Local authorities identified the hostage taker as Ibrahim, a former employee of the company. He was arrested by special forces and brought into police custody.
The incident unfolded on Thursday. Footage from the emergency scene broadcast by local TV stations showed that the suspect was not wearing a belt, suggesting that he might have been carrying an improvised explosive device.
Reports earlier indicated that the hostage taker had acted out of protest against the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip.
