The Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh has fulfilled difficult tasks to separate the warring parties and is currently solving planned profile tasks in the region, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said during a military department conference call.
"By introducing our peacekeeping forces, we have managed to calm down the situation there, and further steps are being taken to carry out planned work. Now it can already be called planned. Gradually, life is returning to the region. There is more and more peace and calm there," said Shoigu.
According to him, "in this is a great merit of all those who were involved in the provision of medical, humanitarian aid." "And of course - all those who stand around the clock at the peacekeepers' posts," the minister stressed.
He expressed gratitude to "all the commanders, soldiers, privates, non-commissioned officers who have been serving all this time in Nagorno-Karabakh, Syria, at our other bases abroad."
"But - especially in those two locations. Everything that was, say, a year ago in Karabakh, when there was an extremely difficult, extremely acute situation, through the efforts of our Supreme Commander-in-Chief, who led these negotiations, this work virtually around the clock, has been overcome," Shoigu noted.
During the meeting he also thanked the military builders who have put more than three thousand facilities into operation during the year.
