Syria reserved the right to respond to Israeli missile attacks

The Syrian government warns of the dangerous consequences of Israeli aggressive attacks on its territory for stability in the Middle East and around the world, the Arab republic's foreign ministry said so in a message sent to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, the SANA news agency reported.

"Syria states that it reserves the right to use all legal means to respond to Israel's treacherous strikes on the outskirts of Damascus from Lebanese airspace and from the occupied Golan Heights," the document said.

The Syrian foreign ministry draws attention to the fact that "the United States, which patronizes Israel, encourages it to continue its attacks and paralyzes possible measures by the UN Security Council to contain the aggressor, which undermines the prestige of the international community." The message reported that Israeli strikes killed one Syrian soldier and wounded five others.

On February 9, four Israeli Air Force F-16 tactical fighter jets, without crossing the Syrian state border, struck targets near Kiswah, Damascus province, with guided missiles. Then ten ground-to-ground missiles were fired from the Golan Heights area at the positions of the Syrian anti-aircraft defense forces.

According to Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, eight missiles were destroyed by Russian-made air defense systems used by the Syrian army to repel the attack.
