The Syrian army has received the second batch of improved MiG-29 fighters from Russia, the Russian Embassy in Syria reports on its Twitter page.
The vehicles were transferred as part of military-technical cooperation between the two countries, the diplomatic mission recalled. Syrian pilots have already started using them.
By the beginning of the conflict in Syria, the country's air force was armed with several dozen MiG-29s, which had been delivered since the early 1980s. In addition, the MiG-29SMT was used by the Russian aerospace forces during the operation against terrorists in Syria.
The MiG-29 is a fourth-generation fighter designed to destroy all types of air targets in simple and difficult weather conditions in free space and on the ground with guided missiles and fire from an onboard gun.
The first flight of the MiG-29 took place in 1977, five years later, the aircraft was adopted and for some time it was the main fighter of the Russian air force. Now most of these machines in the VKS have been replaced with new types of machines.
