Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad expressed his concern about the devastating impact of the sanctions imposed by the West on Syria and Iran on ordinary citizens of both countries. He made this statement during a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran.
According to the minister, as quoted by SANA news agency, the sanctions measures "contradict international humanitarian law and lead to catastrophic consequences for the lives of the [Syrian and Iranian] peoples, particularly affecting children and women."
In response, President Ebrahim Raisi praised the resilience of Syrians and their leadership in facing the challenges that have affected the nation. He emphasized the necessity of withdrawing all foreign forces that are present in Syria unlawfully and fully restoring the sovereignty of the Syrian state. Additionally, he stressed the significance of advancing and strengthening the bilateral relations between Damascus and Tehran in various sectors.
