The customs authorities of Tajikistan and Russia have signed an agreement to establish a simplified customs corridor for smoother processing of goods and transportation between the two countries. The agreement, signed by Khurshed Karimzoda, head of Tajikistan's Customs Service, and Valery Pikalov, head of Russia's Federal Customs Service (FCS), was concluded at the International Customs Forum held on October 29 in Moscow, according to Khovar news agency.
The simplified customs corridor aims to create favorable trade conditions for entities classified as low-risk under Tajik and Russian law, including authorized economic operators. This initiative is expected to speed up the movement of goods between Tajikistan and Russia, significantly benefiting trade activities.
In November 2023, Russia and Tajikistan’s customs services signed an additional agreement on the mutual recognition of authorized economic operators, which prioritizes customs procedures for direct transactions between recognized operators. According to the FCS, customs inspections and documentation checks will be conducted to the minimum extent required by law, expediting trade while ensuring compliance.
The Russian trade mission in Tajikistan recently reported that trade between the two countries exceeded $1.2 billion in the first eight months of 2024, marking a 14.3% increase over the same period last year.
