The foreign ministry of the Taliban regime (which has seized power) in Afghanistan, rejected US President Joe Biden's comments on Friday that no one can unite the Afghan people under a single power.
"The MFA of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the name of the state used by the Taliban - TASS) categorically rejects the words of the US president that Afghanistan is incapable of unity," reads the statement distributed by the spokesman of the radical foreign ministry Abdul Kahar Balkhi on his Twitter page. It noted that "only united rather than divided nations can bring about the fall of invaders and great empires."
The Taliban stressed that in a short period of time they have managed "to provide universal security, establish a central government and unite the Afghan people." "Discord is an external phenomenon instigated by foreign invaders in order to survive, but Afghans have overcome them with their Islamic faith, [sense of] homeland and illustrious history, and are now taking decisive steps toward becoming an equal nation," the radicals added.
Speaking at a White House news conference Wednesday, Biden said Afghanistan is "the graveyard of empires" because it is "not susceptible to unity." "Raise your hand if you think anyone can unite Afghanistan under one government," the American president addressed the audience.
The Taliban launched a massive operation to take control of Afghanistan after the US announced last spring its decision to withdraw its military forces from the country. On August 15, 2021, the Taliban entered Kabul without a fight and President Ashraf Ghani left the country. On September 6, the Taliban claimed control of all Afghan territory and on September 7 announced the composition of the provisional government, whose legitimacy has not yet been recognized by any country.
