The Russian Ministry of Defense has selected volunteers from the military to test the coronavirus vaccine, the organization reports.
"To test the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, 50 military personnel were selected, including five women who voluntarily expressed a desire to participate in the testing of modern medicine. All candidates passed preliminary examination and testing, for a month they were not diagnosed with any diseases," TASS quotes the interlocutor.
The military, as noted, was selected from various divisions throughout Russia. The first group will arrive on June 3 at a special facility at the 48th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defense Ministry "to undergo a preliminary in-depth medical examination and prepare for the experiment."
Earlier, Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu reported to President Vladimir Putin that the Central Research Institute of radiation, chemical and biological protection forces together with the Gamalei National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology are developing a vaccine against the coronavirus. According to him, preclinical studies were supposed to be completed by June 1, and clinical studies - by the end of July.
Clinical trials of the vaccine will be conducted on the basis of the 48th Central Research Institute of the Ministry of defense, where the Ebola and Middle East respiratory symptom (MERS) vaccines, as well as the universal flu vaccine, have already been studied and successfully tested.
