Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas praised the position of Russia and China on the Palestinian issue, which is reflected in a joint statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xí Jìnpíng after talks in Moscow on June 5-7.
The document, in particular, states that Moscow and Beijing are in favor of an early resumption of negotiations on the Palestinian-Israeli problem. In addition, Russia and China expressed support for the creation of an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem.
This position, according to Abbas, "will prevent any encroachment on international legality and the Arab peace initiative, as well as the historical rights of the Palestinians."
Arab Peace Initiative was adopted by the Arab states at a summit in Beirut in 2002.
The United States intends to submit its plan for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the so-called "deal of the century", which provides for the rejection of many provisions of Arab peace initiative in exchange for economic preferences for Palestinians.
