Indonesia's President Joko Vidodo has tasked local experts with completing the coronavirus vaccine within three months. The Jakarta Post wrote on Thursday that the head of state called such terms at a closed meeting with representatives of the scientific community.

"We have received instructions from Vidodo to prepare the vaccine within three months," Kusnandi Rusmil, Professor of Medicine at the University of Pajajaran, who develops the medicine, told the press. However, he said, the most advanced research in this area "is expected to complete clinical trials only in January next year. The scientist recalled that in Indonesia "the most promising is considered a joint project of local pharmaceutical company Bio Farma and Chinese Sinovac Biotech". It is expected that human trials of the medicine will start in August.

Bio Farma's head Onesti Bahiyar said recently that the corporation was ready to produce up to 40 million vaccines a year at the first stage and then to bring the production to 250 million.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Indonesia exceeds 91 thousand people, of which about 4.4 thousand died. According to these indicators, the republic ranks first in Southeast Asia.
