The US refusal to hold an online summit on the situation around the Persian Gulf and Iran demonstrates Washington's commitment to a policy of pressure, said Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia remains fully committed to the JCPOA on the settlement of the Iranian nuclear program, and offered to hold an online meeting of the heads of permanent members of the UN Security Council with the participation of leaders of Germany and Iran to avoid escalation of the situation. US President Donald Trump on the question of whether he will support the initiative of the Russian Federation, said: "Probably not." According to him, Washington will wait for the end of the elections, which will be held in the US in November.
"The US rejected Putin's offer of an online summit to reduce tensions in the Persian Gulf and around Iran. There are two competing approaches: the Russian one aimed at dialogue and a system of collective security in the region, and the American one based on pressure, " Ulyanov wrote on Twitter.
On Monday and Tuesday, interagency consultations between the Russian Federation and the United States on strategic stability are taking place in Vienna.
