The National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan should develop effective cooperation with allied countries in the field of secret services. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated this on Wednesday during a solemn meeting on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the NSC.
"Kazakhstan pursues a balanced and constructive foreign policy aimed at strengthening global and regional security. Therefore, it is extremely important to develop productive cooperation in the line of special services with states that are our allies and strategic partners," he said.
According to the head of state, as cited by his press service, the implementation of strategic objectives in the field of security should in no case allow the infringement of the rights of citizens and the deterioration of the business climate in Kazakhstan.
The president also reported that since the beginning of the year, 42 people involved in extremist activities and terrorist propaganda were detained thanks to the effective work of NSC agents. "Two terrorist attacks were prevented at an early stage. The fight against organised crime is being stepped up. National security agencies and police neutralised a number of especially dangerous criminal groups and detained 22 members of gangs. As a result, almost 700 guns, 54 grenades and over 17 thousand ammunition were seized. Over the six months 15 drug laboratories, 23 international and 40 regional drug channels were liquidated and three drug plantations were found. As part of the fight against international drug trafficking, 14 international special operations were carried out jointly with foreign partners," Tokayev said.
In addition, the republic's leader said that the authorities faced the task of ensuring the stable and effective functioning of state and public institutions and protecting the safety of citizens. "During the tragic events of January, despite the undignified behavior and betrayal of a number of leaders of the committee, many of our officers remained faithful to their oath and showed courage and valor. Recent large-scale conflicts in other countries have once again vividly demonstrated that without stability there can be no sustainable progress. National security has become a decisive factor in the competitiveness of states. Not only political stability within states, but also their sustainable economic development depends to a large extent on the success of the intelligence services," he stressed.
