Children in Kazakhstan must have a good command of both the state language: Kazakh and Russian, and it is in their interest, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in an address to the nation on Thursday.
"There are discussions in society right now about teaching Kazakh and Russian languages in schools. I will say very clearly: we must raise children who speak both Kazakh and Russian well," he said.
As the head of the state noted, it is in the interests of the younger generation. "The ministry of education should proceed precisely from the interests of children, not to be led by populists," pointed out the president.
