Tokayev: Regional Security Threats Increased Amid Geopolitical Confrontation

03 June

During a meeting with the speakers of the parliaments of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the escalating threats to regional security amidst geopolitical confrontation.

“Our meeting occurs amidst an unprecedented exacerbation of the international landscape. The expansion of geopolitical confrontation has notably amplified the scope of threats to regional security. The global potential for conflict has reached perilous levels,” Tokayev stated, as reported by his press service.

He expressed serious concern over the situation in the Middle East, particularly in the Gaza Strip. "Every day, hundreds of civilians, including women and children, continue to suffer casualties and severe injuries. Over a million people are facing dire circumstances. Virtually all major international organizations have deemed the humanitarian situation in Palestine unacceptable. In essence, it is approaching a catastrophic scenario," emphasized the Kazakh president.

Tokayev reiterated Kazakhstan's steadfast stance on the matter, emphasizing that the longstanding conflict's sole resolution lies in establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the "two states for two peoples" principle. He also welcomed the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on May 10, 2024, recognizing the Palestinians' right to membership in the organization.
