Tokayev thanked Russia for the assistance provided to Kazakhstan during the pandemic

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the assistance provided to the Republic during the pandemic, the press service of the head of state reports following his meeting with Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Alexey Borodavkin.


"The President expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for the assistance provided to Kazakhstan during the coronavirus pandemic. The head of state noted the importance of further intensive cooperation between the two countries in the bilateral format and through international organizations in the field of medicine and healthcare, including in the framework of new initiatives and projects," the message reads.

 

 

During the meeting, a wide range of issues of Kazakh-Russian cooperation was touched upon. "The parties also discussed issues related to the activities of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the preparation of the EEU summit, as well as the upcoming CSTO summit," the message reads. In addition, Tokayev told Borodavkin about the initiatives and tasks set for the government of Kazakhstan in the framework of the President's address to the people.


The state of emergency in connection with the spread of the coronavirus was in effect in Kazakhstan from March 16 to May 11. On July 5, the authorities of the Republic re-introduced a number of additional restrictions due to the deterioration of the epidemic situation. Their gradual easing began on August 17, and the second stage of easing quarantine measures began on August 31.
